Rita Bojalian began her career as a business litigator, trying cases for both plaintiffs and defendants. Her experience as a litigator not only gave her better insight when reviewing documents and policies, but also a well-rounded background in many areas of the law, which she uses to her clients’ advantage.
After many years of defending employers in discrimination and wage and hour lawsuits and class actions, she learned how important it is to provide proactive counseling to employers to prevent such time-consuming and costly lawsuits.
Unlike many of her employment law firm counterparts, Rita incorporates in-house knowledge and understanding when she advises companies. In addition to working in several law firms, including Seyfarth Shaw, LLP, she went in-house for over twelve years.
She worked at CBS Television, where she counseled its separate entities on employment law matters, including policies and wage and hour issues. She worked at St. Jude Medical, where she managed litigation resulting in a $2.3 billion verdict for St. Jude in the Nervicon case, on Bloomberg’s list of one of the largest trade secret verdicts. She later led the development and implementation of the company’s global trade secret protection program.
Continuing her in-house experience, she was the general counsel at Boston Scientific Corporation’s Neuromodulation Division, where she served on the division’s Management Board. The experience gave her a broad background in all areas of the company, which has added to her business perspective as an employment attorney.
She also served as an associate general counsel at Canon Medical Systems, where she spent the majority of her time on employment matters, such as reviewing policies, counseling on employee discipline and terminations, wage and hour issues and employee training. She recently decided to begin her own practice to focus on advice and counsel work in employment law to help employers be proactive and prevent lawsuits, so they can focus on their business.
Rita believes in giving back to the community and has volunteered pro bono for several charities and non-profits, including the Real Medicine Foundation and Public Counsel. She has been a board member and advisor at Glendale Memorial Hospital Foundation, where she worked to improve patient access to newer technologies in her community. She has been a speaker on multiple panels, including for CenterForce USA on the subject of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and for the Women’s Network at Boston Scientific, where she was its Executive Sponsor. She continues to participate in a number of charitable organizations in her community.
